Module 1 · See the whole picture

Day 1 of 11 · about 10 minutes

Most of us never stop to look at our whole life at once. We look at whatever is loudest this week: a bill, a deadline, a sick kid. The quiet parts get ignored until they become loud too.

Self-made people do something simple and unusual. They look at the whole picture on purpose, and then they choose where to put their effort. That's what this course is about. Over the next eleven days you'll take one part of your life each day, see what the research says, and try one small thing.

The nine parts

Faith, family, friends, health, money, work, mind, time and purpose. Together they cover most of what makes a life feel built rather than drifted into.

Try this today (10 minutes)

  1. Write the nine parts down the side of a page.
  2. Next to each one, give yourself a score from 1 to 10. A 1 means it's badly neglected. A 10 means you wouldn't change a thing.
  3. Don't think too long. Your first number is usually the honest one.
  4. Circle your lowest score and your highest score.

That's it for today. Don't try to fix anything yet. Most people skip this step and start working on whatever feels urgent. Seeing the whole picture first is what makes the rest of the course useful.

The honest note

A self-rating isn't a measurement. Your scores will move with your mood, and that's fine. The point isn't accuracy. It's to notice, for once, all nine parts at the same time. Keep the page. You'll come back to it on Day 11.

Write it down: print Workbook 1, See the whole picture. It has space for this lesson’s exercise and a week tracker.
